Method
1 two diffrent ignition coils configrations.
2 List all coil part number , voltage , internal resistance specations .
Coil Specificatios
Coil # 1 NO ...CIC31 Coil #2 NO...CIC32R
Coil# 1 voltage..12V Coil #2 Voltage..12V
Coil # 1 primary ..3 - 4 ohms Coil #2 primary..3 - 4 ohms
Coil # 1 Secondary.. 7 - 8 K ohms Coil #2 secondary..7 - 8 K ohms
Coil test results
Coil # 1 primary ..3.5 ohms
Coil # 1 secondrar 9.4 ohms
Coil #1 Earth leakage OL
Coil # 2 primary 1.9 ohms
Coil # 2 Secondarary 9. 4 ohms
Coil # 2 Earth leakage test OL
Both coil get specificaton not serviceble (OK)
Extra explaination about coil:
Secondary winding which is 100 times over the primeray winding, inside primery and secondary windings iron soft cone.
Secondary winding which is 100 times over the primeray winding, inside primery and secondary windings iron soft cone.
when the ignition coil is connected to the battery the inductor is get charged it is take afew mille second for the current to bueild up the energetec field this on accut of revers voltage caused by increase field .
During this short charging peried a thusand volts are produce at the high voltage terminal not enugh to actulay cause a sprk . The actual spark is generated with the braker contact open.
Wasted Spark coil pack test.
Coil # 1 Secondary 9. 48 K ohms
Coil # 2 Secondary 7.33 K ohms
Coil # 3 Secondary 7.34 K ohms
Coil #1 Primary 0.1 ohms
Coil # 2 Primary 0.6 ohms
Coil # 3 Primary 1.1 ohms
Testing Ballast resistors
I have two diffrent type of blast resistors , i meassured the resitance and specification.
Specifications
Ballast resistor 1 NO BR1 Ballast resistor 2 NO BR2
Ballast resistor No 1 ohms spec 0.9 - 1.1 ohms Ballast resistor No2 ohms spec 0.5 - 0.7 ohms
Meassured Resistance Values
Ballast resistor NO1 measured ohms 4.2 ohms serviceble? NO
Ballast resistor NO2 meassured ohms 2.5 ohms serviceble? NO
Meassure of Ballast resistor NO2
Meassuring Current Draw and voltage Drop
Stander Signal tower coil
I have wired up the coil primaty winding with ballast resistor folow that drawing diagram.
Coil calculate Voltage Drop 4.7 Volts
Ballast resistor calculated voltage drop 5.96 volts
Did your calculated values equal your measured results explain why or why not?
Voltage drop are equal as the ohms law say
Calculated value:
Ballast resistance . . . . . 1.9 ohms
Coil resistance . . . . . 1.3 ohms
Coil volatge drop . . . . . 4.14 A * 1.3 ohms = 5.4 volts
Ballast resistor voltage drop 3.14 A * 1.9 ohms = 5.98 volts
